This anniversary of 9/11, is the time to tell the tale of two Congresses. Of course after the death of nearly 3000 Americans, the Democratically controlled Congress engaged in some finger pointing. But Democratic leadership quickly established hearings to investigate what went wrong and how to prevent future intelligence lapses.
Congress determined that the attacks could have been prevented through better gathering, and interagency sharing, of information. Working with the administration they passed the Patriot Act. Many of us feel the Act overreached, but clearly Congress produced legislation correlated to the results of its investigation.

Hearings might have produced legislative fixes, such as restoring funding for embassy protection reduced by the GOP controlled Congress. But Republicans could not be bothered with problem solving. Now about to enter the 10th round, the hearings are really just designed to pillory Hillary. The hearings have cost millions of dollars and burned multiple thousands of hours of congressional and staff time. Comparing these hearings to the focused post 9/11 investigation is ample proof that Republicans are unfit to govern. Their pettiness dishonors the dead.
