The Trump brand is the basis for his wealth and the rationale for his campaign. Ben Carson's story of personal redemption is the primary source of his wealth and the focal point of his successful appeal to evangelical voters.
So just as it is appropriate to question Trump about bankruptcies, Carson should be ready to forthrightly explain any holes in his life story. His story is no longer just personal. If I tell you wonderful exaggerations about my car, and perhaps even set back the odometer, it is of no moment unless I am selling you the car.
Ben's pyramid story is just quirky. But lying for dollars and votes is a legitimate reason for public concern.
